Methodology

How we compare areas and explain the tradeoffs of a city base.

Our Editorial Philosophy

A useful city base depends on your trip. We compare location, transport context, accommodation mix, atmosphere, and drawbacks instead of claiming one neighborhood suits everyone.

How We Rank Options

Area recommendations consider these criteria and explain the tradeoffs:

  1. 1

    Trip fit

How the area fits a first visit, family trip, short stay, or particular budget.

  2. 2

    Location and connections

Sourced district boundaries and current transport context; exact property addresses still matter.

  3. 3

    Atmosphere and drawbacks

Explain evening activity, hills, distance, and other relevant limitations without safety guarantees.

  4. 4

    Accommodation and budget

Discuss area-level options without inventing live rates or property availability.

  5. 5

    Evidence

Link the sources supporting factual claims and state uncertainties.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Unverified property ratings
  • ✗Unattributed popularity claims

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Official city and tourism guides

Neighborhood descriptions, district maps, and visitor context

  2. 2. Transport operators

    Route maps and current connections

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published local context with an identifiable source

Handling Uncertainty

When we can't verify a detail, we say so. Phrases like 'reportedly', 'according to [source]', or 'unverified as of [date]' appear in our guides deliberately. We'd rather be honest about uncertainty than pretend to know what we don't.
